It was a sweltering day and I was busy glued to my laptop. I heard the buzzer and opened the door to find my friend with her son. A ray of restlessness was on her face and she asked me if I had sometime to talk to her. I nodded my head in approval and she said hurriedly: "Hey, you remember the old lady who walks through our houses early every morning. Did you see her last couple of days? I didn't. I am worried. She is alone. Let's do something." I was taken aback and was worried too. I took the company of my husband and we left to the old lady's apartment. She lives upstairs. I climbed up the stairs saying: "Hi".Came back a reply: "Who's that?" and I said: "I am your neigbhour". By then I went near the main door and the old lady stood there leaning on a table holding her walking stick. I greeted her and told her that we were worried about her. Hearing this, she said: "Oh, were you thinking of me? So nice! Thanks". The happiness in her peaked out on her face inspite of the agony she had due to her backache. I and my friend were very happy seeing her and the old lady acknowledged our love for her. The old lady was very happy and had a chat with us on the importance of exercise. She thanked us a couple of times. We left our door numbers and phone numbers on her table to contact us whenever she needed some help. My friend, my husband and I came down with lots of happiness and the old lady smiled at us showing us her happiness and warmth. Yet another happy time, but with a new outlook!
It was just a goodness spark ignited by my friend and it got multiplied in all the four of us. Thank you friend for making us experience the feeling of caring for a fellow being. I wonder: "How many goodness sparks did I ignite?"
